Shafali’s 197 in Vain as Bengal Chase Down 390 Against Haryana

In the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, Bengal has made the record of chasing the highest runs in List A cricket against Haryana. In the quarter-final match on Monday, Bengal won the toss and chose to bowl first. With the help of Haryana opener Shefali Verma’s brilliant 197 runs in 115 balls, the team scored 389 runs in 50 overs.

In reply, Bengal achieved the target of 390 runs by losing 5 wickets in 49.1 overs. Tanushree Sarkar scored 113 runs and also took 3 wickets from the team. This match was played at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Earlier, the record for the highest run chase in women’s List A cricket was registered in the name of New Zealand’s Northern Districts team. In 2019, Northern Districts made a record by achieving the target of 309 runs against Canterbury. Sri Lanka holds the record for the highest run chase in women’s international cricket. The team achieved the target of 305 runs against South Africa this year.

For Haryana, Shefali Verma played an innings of 197 runs in 115 balls. She hit 22 fours and 11 sixes in this innings. This is her second century in the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy. Shefali had earlier played an innings of 139 runs in 98 balls against Uttar Pradesh.

So far, Shefali has scored 527 runs in 7 innings and is at the top of the run chart. Shefali’s brilliant performance has been seen at a time when she is out of Team India. She has not been included in the team for the last two series. Shefali has scored only 108 runs in 6 ODIs in international cricket this year at an average of 18.

Chasing the target of 390 runs, Bengal’s openers gave the team a good start. Sasthi Mandal scored 52 and Dhara Gujjar scored 69 runs. Both of them had scored 100 runs in just 9 overs. Tanushree Sarkar, who came to bat at number three, strengthened the team by scoring a brilliant century.

Sarkar scored 113 runs while wicketkeeper Priyanka Bala scored an unbeaten 88. Rishita Basu scored an unbeaten 11 runs. She led the team to victory on the first ball of the last over.
