The UPI and online banking services of the country’s largest public sector bank SBI are down across the country. According to Downdetector, users are facing problems in using online banking services since around 8 am. During this time, more than 5,000 complaints have been registered.
However, SBI informed through a post at 12 pm that due to annual closing activity, online banking services will not run from 1 pm to 4 pm on April 1. Users will have to use ATM and UPI Lite for money withdrawal and transfer.
Breakdown of Service Disruptions
According to Downdetector, 64% users faced problems in mobile banking service. Apart from this, 32% users faced problems in transferring funds. 4% users have complained about problems in ATM service.
UPI Service Outage on March 26
On March 26, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service was down for about two and a half hours in the country. During this time, people faced problems in transferring money through apps like Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm. Apart from this, UPI and net banking services of more than 10 banks were also affected. Users were not even able to login access to apps and net banking.
The reason for this technical glitch has not been revealed. According to Downdetector, users faced the most problems in making payments through UPI between 7 and 9:30 pm on Wednesday evening. More than 23,000 complaints were registered during this period.
National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said, ‘Users have faced temporary technical problems, due to which UPI was partially disrupted. Now these problems have been resolved. The system has become stable.’
Affected Banks and Payment Apps
Apart from the payment app, services of more than 10 banks including SBI, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Indian Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ICICI Bank were affected. PhonePe services were restored after about 2 hours. However, some users were facing problems even later.
