The Indian women’s hockey team has embarked on a captivating journey in recent years, quickly rising to illustrious heights as one of the most remarkable teams in the game. Each and every player is on their way to touch stupendous heights and one of the recent achievements is in the name of Salima Tete.
– Friday marked a defining moment for Indian women’s hockey team midfielder Salima Tete, as she was honored with the esteemed Asian Hockey Federation Emerging Player of the Year Award for her exceptional performance in 2022.
– At the Annual General Meeting held in South Korea, the 21 year-old received the award and began a new thrilling chapter in her career.
Speaking on the special eve, Tete said: ‘I sincerely thank the Asian Hockey Federation for recognising the hard work that we have done on the ground over the years.
‘But this journey would not have been possible without the constant support that I have received from my teammates and the coaching staff who have always given me the confidence to play according to my strengths and have given me the freedom to express myself. I hope to continue to perform in a similar fashion in the years to come’ she stated.
Her Golden Journey till Now
Tete has been a commanding presence in the Indian Women’s hockey team for the last few years and was the toast of her team when she bagged the Rising Player of the Tournament Award at the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 tournament in Muscat back in January.
One of the freshest faces to enter the Indian team, Salima Tete has been an integral part of some of the finest successes that the team has seen in recent years and she looks forward to playing a part in even more astonishing triumphs in the coming days.

Incredible Performance
Her debut for the senior women’s team in the Test series against Australia in 2016 was only the start of her exhilarating journey and her stellar performance in the 3rd Youth Olympic Games 2018, Buenos Aires, Argentina, that saw the Indian women’s junior team clinch a silver medal, will remain etched forever in cricketing lore.
In 2021, she was chosen to join the Indian team headed to the Tokyo Olympics – a daring adventure that she would embark on!
The adventurous midfielder was part of the Indian squad that achieved the remarkable feat of claiming a bronze medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2021-22 and secured an impressive third place in the FIH Women’s Hockey Pro League.
Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey congratulated her for her tremendous accomplishment.

“She has been an asset to the Indian team for the past couple of years now, despite being one of the youngest members of the team. We are confident that she will continue to soar even higher in the years to come,” he added.

A strong presence in Salima ‘s life
According to Salima, there were many external forces as well as her role model which helped her to stand and shine among other players.
“I came to hockey through the junior nationals and I had a role model in Asunta Lakra. I wanted to become like her, when I saw her playing, I felt that if she can do it, so can I. Nikki Pradhan’s a very important figure in my development and has always had enough time for me,” said the Indian hockey player.

Her journey is quite inspiring and a lesson for many who wants to achieve great things in their life. With a goal in her mind and an infinite will to work hard for that goal is what made her stand out. It is quite natural if anyone says that she has more to achieve and conquer ahead in her career.
