Rohit Sharma’s heartwarming gesture for a Sri Lankan fan is winning hearts!
Rohit Sharma’s heartwarming gesture for a Sri Lanka fan proves, he is a champ on and off the field.
In the ongoing Ind/SL match, Rohit Sharma has hit his third double century as he remained unbeaten on 208*. The double century was a perfect anniversary gift by Rohit which left his wife with teary eyes. However, here is one more reason why the Hitman is winning our hearts.
Sri Lanka’s 3 die-hard fans Gayan, Pubudu and Mohamed Nilam have been supporting their team for the entire India tour. However, during the 3rd test match, Nilam’s father was diagnosed with throat cancer in Colombo.
His return was scheduled from Mumbai on December 26 after the final T20 Internationals. Nilam’s father had to undergo an urgent surgery but he didn’t have the money for return on the same ticket.
Rohit was informed about the health of Nilam’s father by Indian fan Sudhir Gautam. On Dec 5, Rohit arranged for Nilam’s return air ticket to Colombo so that he could be by his father’s side in time for the surgery.
“Rohit called me to the team hotel and gave me the [Rs 20,000 approx] ticket,” Nilam told mid-day. “Rohit has a big heart and he immediately arranged for my return ticket. He is a gem of a person,” said Nilam.
Not only this Rohit also offered financial help for the surgery to which Nilam politely refused. Even Virat Kohli, who is in Italy for his wedding also inquired with Nilam if he needed any help.
“I feel blessed and lucky to get so much love from Indian cricketers. They have always been very helpful in arranging match tickets whenever we come to watch them,” said Nilam. Truly, a champion on and off the field!
