Rishabh Pant left the field on Day 2 of the first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru after being hit in the right knee. He has not returned to keep wickets for Team India on Day 3 of the match. On the crucial moving day of the Test match, Dhruv Jurel, a substitute, was seen accompanying Rohit Sharma and the others to perform wicket-keeping duties as play began.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now issued an official confirmation, saying Rishabh will not take the field on Day 3.
Rishabh Pant To Not Play On Day 3 Of Test Match
“On Day 3, Mr. Rishabh Pant will not keep wickets. “His progress is being monitored by the BCCI Medical Team,” the BCCI stated in an official post.
Rishabh Pant sustained an injury in the 37th over of New Zealand’s innings. Rishabh Pant missed a stumping opportunity against Devon Conway, the New Zealand opener, off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling.
Pant was hit in the knee because he didn’t catch the ball correctly. Dhruv Jurel took his place on the field after Pant immediately left the field.
Rohit Sharma Gives Update On Pant’s Health
Following the conclusion of Day 2, India captain Rohit Sharma stated that Pant had been struck on the kneecap.
“Unfortunately, the ball landed directly on his kneecap, which is the same leg on which he had surgery. Therefore, there is some swelling on it,” Rohit stated.
Rishabh Pant, who suffered a career-threatening car crash in December 2022, made his comeback only this year, through the IPL.
India vs New Zealand 1st Test Match
In relation to the current first Test match between India and New Zealand, the hosts were dismissed for 46 in their first innings. This is India’s lowest home total and their third-lowest Test total all time.
Pant scored the most runs for India in the first innings, scoring 20 runs off 49 deliveries.
Day 3 ended with New Zealand leading by 134 runs on 180/3.
