Reliance Jio stops free IPL streaming: New subscription plans revealed

Starting this season, users will have to pay a subscription fee to watch matches on the newly merged JioHotstar platform. The move marks the end of two years of free IPL streaming, which was available on JioCinema in 2023 and 2024.

Jio’s decision to introduce paid subscriptions is in line with its strategy to monetise digital content and expand its domestic internet business. The Reliance-Disney joint venture has spent around $10 billion on the media rights for the IPL and other cricket tournaments, making it necessary to introduce a revenue model.
