Facts About Alluri Sitaram Raju- The Young Monk and Hero of the Jungle

- He was born in the Mogallu village of Andhra Pradesh and did not come from a family of freedom fighters. His father was a photographer and his mother was a homemaker.
- Alluri had deep affection to one of his friend’s sister, when she died he attached her name to his. That’s how he got the full name Alluri Sitaram Raju
- Alluri was always interested in studying political situation of India and this was fueled by the condition of Gond tribe who lost their lives fighting against Britishers.
- He was a great learner and well-versed in Telugu, Hindi, English, and Sanskrit language. Astrology, palmistry, herbalism, and equestrianism were his areas of interest.
- Alluri became Sannyasi at the age of 18 and later emerged as the hero of tribal people. His selfless attitude made him a messiah who possessed holy powers.
- He strongly opposed The 1882 Madras Forest Act that heavily exploited the lands, forests, and tribal people of Madras along with his supporters.
- Alluri along with his troop attacked several police stations during rebellion and would dare police officers to stop him from attacking.
- He had deep understanding of the local areas that greatly helped him frame attacks on British forces.
- Alluri Sitaram Raju was famously known as Manyam Veerudu which translates to Hero of the Jungles.
- British forces manhunt for Alluri for almost 2 years and also kept price money on him. Eventually, he was taken into custody in 1924 after which he was executed openly by tied to a tree.

Alluri played by Ram Charan in the movie was one of the greatest revolutionaries in the history of India. Another real hero of RRR is Kumram or Komaram Bheem who was lionized after his death. Let’s know about him below.
Facts About Komaram Bheem
- Komaram belonged to the Gond tribes and was born in Sankepalli in Hyderabad. However, there is no exact information about the year of his birth.
- He did not receive any formal education as Gond people were forced to wend due to exploitation by landlords and mining activities in their region.
- Bheem formed a guerilla army to prevent his people from the ongoing atrocities by the Nizam government. Another aim for this army was to make the independent Gond Kingdom.
- Throughout the war, he stood with only one slogan that clearly showed his aim. The slogan was ‘Jal, Jungle and Zameen.’
- He was killed during an encounter with policemen in 1940.
- Komaram Bheem gradually emerged as the hero of Adivaasis. Even now he is worshipped and his contribution is depicted in their folk songs.
- There is a statue of Komaram Bheem installed in Hyderabad to honor this unsung hero of India’s independence struggle.
His character was played by Jr. NTR in RRR. It was hard for director to portray these two legendary characters of the past as both of them were away from their home for longer. Moreover, the movie is not completely based on these two and has a fictional angle to show their efforts.
