Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday appointed Rajat Patidar as the captain for IPL 2025. RCB announced the appointment of Rajat Patidar as the new captain through a social media post and live session.

Rajat Patidar’s IPL Journey – From ₹20 Lakh to ₹11 Crore

Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Rajat Patidar joined RCB in IPL 2022 for a price of Rs 20 lakh in place of injured Lavnith Sisodia. Rajat represents Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket. Rajat first represented RCB in IPL 2021 and scored 71 runs in four matches played in the season. Later he became a part of the RCB team once again after a year.

Who got the captaincy of RCB

RCB released Du Plessis just before the mega auction of 2025 and he was the captain of this team from 2022 to 2024. 40-year-old Du Plessis will be seen playing for Delhi Capitals this season. Although Kohli’s record as RCB captain is excellent, he could not make this team a champion. Under Kohli’s captaincy, this team won 68 matches while lost 70 matches.

Rajat has a lot of experience of captaining at the domestic level and he led Madhya Pradesh to the SMAT final where they lost to Mumbai by five wickets. He was also the second highest run scorer after Ajinkya Rahane who scored 428 runs in 10 matches at an average of 61 and a strike-rate of 186.08. At the same time, Rajat has been scoring runs consistently for RCB in the IPL.

Rajat Patidar has played only 27 matches in the IPL so far and during this time he has scored 799 runs. His best score is 112, while his strike rate is around 159. Before the mega auction of IPL 2025, the RCB team retained Patidar for a price of 11 crores.

Started career as a bowler

31-year-old Rajat Patidar started his career as a bowler. After Under-15, he focused on batting. In 2014, he also had to undergo surgery after suffering a knee injury while playing football. He stayed away from the field for 8 months but everything changed after that. After the surgery, he came back as a different player who wanted to achieve something big. To further improve his batting technique, Patidar took training from former Indian batsman Amay Khurasia. After this everything changed.
