Punjab CM Amarinder Singh Resigns Over Political Tussle In Party

The ongoing political crisis in Punjab resulted in the resignation of 15th Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. Submitting his resignation on Saturday ahead of the party meeting, Singh said “ I felt humiliated.” During his session with the press at Raj Bhavan, Punjab CM Amarinder said “ My leadership is being questioned.”

His son Raninder Singh informed regarding the resignation via Twitter.

Singh stepped down just before the elections which are five months away. As per the sources, he had discussed it with Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying he would resign if the party continues to sideline him.

In-house attacks and rebellions against him led to this decision. According to sources, more than half of MLAs had demanded his resignation. This led to an emergency meeting last night following which Punjab CM Amarinder Singh took this decision.

After Singh, Beant Singh, Sunil Jakhar, and Pratap Singh Bajwa are in the lines of the state’s new CM. The party can take a decision anytime regarding the same.
