Poonam Gupta has been appointed as the new Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). She is currently the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCIR). She has been appointed RBI Deputy Governor for three years. She will replace Michael Patra.

Poonam Gupta taught at the School of Economics University of Maryland (USA) and worked as a visiting faculty at ISI, Delhi. She has also been the RBI Chair Professor at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy and a Professor at ICRIER.
