Pakistan is pushed into darkness due to the global energy shortage. Russia-Ukraine war caused this shortage and increased prices of natural gas and oil. The country is largely dependent on import of Natural gas and oil from these countries that import 50% of energy resources to it.

On the other hand, Pakistan’s foreign reserves fell $10 billion in the past few years. Now, the remaining reserve can bring only 2 months of imports as per Bloomberg.

The shortage of money and fuel resulted in high price of basic items including petrol. Currently, the price of petrol in Pakistan is Rs 233.89/litre and one litre of diesel costs Rs 263.31. Furthermore, common man is struggling with tea as well, as the government has no money to buy tea.

Therefore, Pakistan’s Minster Ahsan Iqbal has suggested that people should limit the drink to 1-2 cups.

On the other hand, pulses, vegetables, sugar, and other edible items are also getting expensive. Common man is struggling to meet daily needs. The only option they are left with is reducing imports. So far, around 41 items are already banned from the import list which has saved 600 billion USD now.

But these solutions are not enough to solve Pakistan crisis because of lack of money. And, if conditions get out of control, Pakistan may soon become Sri Lanka.
