GST Fraud: Oppo Mobiles India Pvt. Ltd. Manager Arrested for ITC Fraud of 19 Crore

The GST Commissioner of Bhiwandi, Thane has arrested a Finance Manager of Oppo Mobiles India Pvt. Ltd. for allegedly indulging in fraudulent availment of Input Tax Credit amounting to around Rs 19 crore. This ITC was issued to a non-existent supplier, Gain Hero India Pvt. Ltd.

Details of the Arrest

Mahendra Kumar Rawat, the Manager of Oppo Mobiles, was taken into custody and presented before a court which remanded him to judicial custody. He has been charged under CGST Act, 2017 Section 69 and 132 based on his confessions pertaining to the irregularities found by the Anti-Evasion Wing of CGST Bhiwandi.

The entire case came to light during investigations when it was found that transactions made by Oppo Mobiles against the invoices issued by Gain Hero India Pvt. Ltd. did not have any real goods being supplied. 16 e-way bills and subsequent statements from transporters and vehicle owners confirmed that no goods were received by Oppo Maharashtra.

Sumit Kumar, the CGST Commissioner of Bhiwandi noted that this case was part of a special drive launched by the Mumbai Zone against tax fraudsters and evaders, which has led to the arrest of 24 people in the past 18 months alone.
