A 40-year-old man died in a government hospital in Kota, Rajasthan after his family reportedly removed the ventilator plug to turn on the cooler. The man was admitted to the Intensive Care Cell (ICU) of Maharao Bhim Singh (MBS) Hospital on 13 June on suspicion of having a coronavirus infection. However, in a subsequent investigation report he was not found infected with the coronavirus. Hospital officials said a three-member committee would investigate the incident.

The man was sent to a separate ward as a precaution on 15 June when another patient in the ICU was found to be corona infected. There was a lot of heat in the isolated ward, so his family brought a cooler on the same day. One of the family members removed the ventilator plug when he could not find a socket to plug the cooler. After about half an hour the power of the ventilator ran out. The doctors and medical workers were immediately informed about this, they tried CPR on the patient, but he died.

Hospital Medical Superintendent Naveen Saxena told the news agency, “We have set up the committee to investigate the incident based on the primary information. The committee includes deputy superintendent of the hospital, nursing superintendent and CMO. We will look into the matter and then shall explore further action for a need to go to the police.”
