If you book a cab on Ola or Uber from an Android phone or iPhone, there will be a difference in the fare. The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has sent a notice to cab aggregators Ola and Uber on Thursday. Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said on social media that the Department of Consumer Affairs has taken note of the issue and has directed the CCPA to investigate. Complainants had reported that some phone models show higher rates, while others show lower rates. Ola and Uber have now been asked to clarify their fare setting process and the reasons for charging different fares.
Different rates for iPhone and Android
CCPA has sent this notice to cab aggregators after reports that both the companies charge different fares for the same service. When passengers book a cab for the same destination, the fare is shown differently on Android and iPhone. The issue came to the fore in December when an Uber user shared an image of two phones allegedly showing different fares for a particular location on the Uber app.
As the post went viral, Uber responded to the allegations by denying the allegations. The company attributed any difference in fares to factors including pick-up point, estimated arrival time (ETA) and drop-off point.
Apps show more amount on iPhone
When these entrepreneurs shared it on social media, we also checked the Ola app and checked the design and Android version. We were being shown the store for Rs 310-301 in Android. In iPhone, this fare was Rs 322-368. On checking for the second time, Android was showing a higher fare. That is, in many places Android is charging more and in some places iPhone is charging more. Experts tell That this happens due to user behavior. If you are a regular customer, you will have to pay more no matter which device you have. Because the app tracks your every activity.
