Novak Djokovic expresses ‘ No regrets’ attitude concerning his absence from United States tournaments due to vaccine status

US Open Grand Slam

The US Open Tennis Championships is an annual hardcourt tennis tournament held in Queens, New York. Beginning in 1987, the US Open has been the last of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments to occur in the calendar year, with the other three Grand Slams taking place in chronological order prior.

But with so many trophies to decorate and many others to earn, Novak Djokovic was clearly showed a red signal for attending the US Open Grand Slam tournament because of not having Covid-19 vaccination status which is needed to enter US. Without it, he is not allowed to attend the upcoming tournament at Indian Wells and Miami.

Foreign nationals without proof of being vaccinated against COVID-19 are currently not being permitted to enter the United States. However, this policy should be retracted in May when the federal government eradicates its COVID-19 emergency decrees. This is done because of the increasing rate of Covid-19 cases throughout the world.

Because of this, Carlos Alcaraz got an opportunity and  rose to the top of the world rankings by defeating Serb in the finals of the Indian Wells tournament on Sunday.

Djokovic’ s reply on Alcatraz win

I have no regrets,” Djokovic told the media press. “I’ve learned through life that regrets only hold you back and basically make you live in the past. I don’t want to do that. I also don’t want to live too much in the future. I want to be as much as in the present moment but of course think about future, create a better future.”

This expressive thoughts really showed that he wanted to be in the tournament but due to certain rules and regulations and lack of vaccination status, he was denied access to United States. But he was quite generous with Alcatraz being the top one. He also added that he was a deserving candidate to have that position and wishes him well for his future.

His views on the current situation

It was regretful for Djokovic to be prevented from displaying his winning prowess at the U.S. tournaments, as it is there that he has won three of his 22 Grand Slam titles. He made a positive note by saying that “It’s the current state or current situation that I hope will change for later this year, for the U.S. Open. That’s the most important tournament for me on American soil.”

“Actually, the contrary, I’m as enthusiastic as ever, as motivated as ever for the sport, my family, my foundation, all the projects and everything I’m doing off the court,” he told. “The dignity, and integrity, and staying true to myself, and my beliefs and my rights are above everything.”

This year was quite an important one for Djokovic because he equalled Rafeal Nadal ‘s 22 Grand Slam record by gaining a victory in Australian Open. Though he was not able to be featured in the ATP tour, he is quite sure that he will come back with more spirit and undeniable victory in the future.
