Pak Vs NZ: New Zealand Cricket Team Cancels Pakistan Tour Citing Security Threats

New Zealand Cricket Team Cancels Pakistan Tour Citing Security Threats

The New Zealand cricket team has called off its Pakistan tour just before the beginning of the ODI series which was scheduled to be held at Rawalpindi. Cricket chief executive David cited security concerns as the reason to cancel the tour. It would be a big shock for the Pakistan Cricket Board, the host of the tournament.

During a press release, David said “Player safety is paramount.” However, the NZC did not give a detailed description of the possible security threats for its players. Heath Mills, the chief executive of the NZ players association, gave a statement regarding players’ safety.

He said players are safe. The decision to cancel the Pakistan tour by the New Zealand team was an independent and unilateral decision. PCB said all the security arrangements are foolproof and made in the best concern of players.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has also personally informed about the same to New Zealand’s PM. The cricket board has further mentioned that security officials of their team have gone through all the arrangements and were satisfied with it.

The last-minute cancellation is not the right decision and has disappointed not just Pakistan’s team but also the cricket lovers, said PCB. “We are willing to play the matches as per their scheduled time and date” further added the cricket board of Pakistan.

Both the teams had 5 T20 matches and 3 ODIs scheduled which fans won’t be able to enjoy after New Zealand’s decision.
