The popular streaming platform Netflix is in the soup for its series The Queen’s Gambit. A legal suit has been filed by Nona Gaprindashvili. The former World Champion claims that the last remark of the series was sexist and belittling.

Nona Seeks Hefty Amount As Compensation From Netflix

The 80-years old Nona found a dialogue of the final episode misleading that says Harmon (the main character) is the champion of the female world.
The dialogue continues like “The only unusual thing about her, really, is her sex. There’s Nona Gaprindashvili, but she’s the female world champion and has never faced men.”
Nona has played against more than 50 men in her entire career. She claimed the directors of The Queen’s Gambit tried to create a fictional hero. Furthermore, the show described her as Russian whereas Nona belongs to George.
All this controversy hurt her reputation for which seeking a lump-sum amount as compensation, she requested the court to ask Netflix to remove the statement.

In response spokesperson of Netflix said, “we believe this claim has no merit and will vigorously defend the case.” They further said Netflix respects Nona and her achievements.
