The update also brings a card-like interface with matching backgrounds that Netflix refers to as the “billboard layout”. Users wanting to check out the new interface will have to update to the latest version (15.14.0) of the Netflix app via the App Store.

Janum Trivedi, a former Netflix UI designer, recently described the changes made with the App Store update through a series of tweets. The update includes a large card at the forefront of the page that displays a movie or show and is featured on a background that has colors that depend on the cover artwork.

Additionally, it has a parallax effect that is activated when a user moves the phone. In the top left corner, there is a new filter with rounded, pill-shaped buttons that make it simpler to separate the content into various categories.

These categories have a background color that matches. Furthermore, there are several new animations and transitions that give the app an updated look, such as cards that move in and out of place and animations for the profile selector.

Trivedi’s tweets suggest that the UI team has been working on an update since 2022, though there is no confirmation as to whether it will be available for Android smartphones. 9to5Mac reported about a similar interface for the Apple TV, however, the source tweet has since been eliminated. In the meantime, Netflix has recently announced the acquisition of streaming rights for 18 new Tamil-language films. This initiative is part of the service’s goal to focus on regional-language content. The movies will be released on the app after their theatrical releases, with dubbing and subtitling by Netflix in multiple languages.
