Contrary to what Shah told, Onomatomania is not an illness. Director of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences told to HT that this is a term given to this specific behavior. It cannot be called an illness or ailment unless it severely affects one’s personal as well as professional life.

Dr. Samir Parikh explained further saying people who have a deep interest in music and literature usually have repetitive thoughts. The reason they repeat the words is that they simply like it or think that those words fit perfectly to their explanation.

Unless onomatomania shows a few more symptoms or troubles someone who has obsessive thought process, it is not problematic. Dr. Parikh said this because everyone has different thinking pattern and their personality also impacts this process.

If it doesn’t trouble their day-to-day life then it cannot be termed as a cause of concern. Furthermore, there is still not much known about it so more studies are needed on onomatomania to reach any conclusion.
