Former Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzaq, who made lewd comments on actress Aishwarya Rai, has apologized. Shahid Afridi has also given clarification regarding laughing at his words. Afridi says that he started laughing without understanding what Razzaq was saying.
This apology and clarification from former cricketers of Pakistan(Abdul Razzaq apologized) have come after being criticized over the statement. Razzaq had made lewd comments about Aishwarya Rai while attending an event at the Marriott Hotel in Karachi on 12 November 2023. He had said that by marrying Aishwarya, children would not be born noble and good. Afridi and Umar Gul were also with him on the stage.
After the controversy over the statement increased, Abdul Razzaq issued a video and apologized. Sama TV has posted this apology video. In this, Razzaq says that his tongue had slipped and he had taken Aishwarya Rai’s name by mistake.
In the apology video, Razzaq said, “In the press conference, there was talk about cricket, coaching and intentions. My tongue slipped. I wanted to give some other example but Aishwarya ji’s name slipped out of my mouth. I really apologize. I say sorry to them. This was not my intention. I wanted to give some other examples but this one came out. I sincerely apologize(Abdul Razzaq apologized).”
While talking to Sama TV on this incident, Shahid Afridi said, “We were sitting on the stage, the program was going on. Razzaq said something there, when he spoke I did not understand what he said, I just laughed.”
He further said, “I knew that he had a mike in his hand and he was bound to say something. He is very fond of shoes, believe me, everyone there was also laughing. When I came home, someone shared a clip with me about what he had said. When I listened carefully to what Razzaq had said, I felt very strange. I will also send a message to Razzaq asking him to apologize to everyone.”

Afridi further said, “That was a very wrong joke. This kind of joke should not have happened at all. Well, Razzaq(Abdul Razzaq apologized) is an innocent person. Afraid of what? In our hatred and lack of intelligence, we blame anyone and judge anyone. As far as condemnation is concerned, I have condemned it on national TV also.”

At the panel, Razzaq criticized the current Pakistan cricket squad and questioned the players’ intentions. He said in Urdu, “If your thinking is that you marry Aishwarya Rai and expect a pious and virtuous child to be born(Abdul Razzaq apologized), then that can never happen.”
