Yazid wanted Hazrat Imam Hussain to join his camp. However, Imam Sahib did not agree to this. He declared war against King Yazid. In this war, he was martyred along with his son, family and other companions.

Hazrat Imam Hussain was the grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad Sahib of Islam. Imam Hussain’s father’s name was ‘Shere-Khuda’ Ali, who was the son-in-law of Prophet Sahib. Imam Hussain’s mother was Bibi Fatima. Hazrat Ali was the religious, social and political leader of Muslims. He was made the Caliph. It is said that after the death of Hazrat Ali, people wanted to make Imam Hussain the Caliph but Hazrat Amir Muawiya took over the Caliphate. After Muawiya, his son Yazid took over the Caliphate. Yazid became a cruel ruler. He was afraid of Imam Hussain. To save humanity, Imam Hussain fought the battle of Karbala against Yazid and was martyred.

Tajiadari is done on the 10th day of Muharram i.e. on the day of Ashura. There is a shrine of Imam Hussain in Iraq, whose exact replica is made and Tazia is made. According to Shia Ulema, Tazia is kept on the first date of the moon. On this day people take out Tazia and processions in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. However, the tradition of taking out Tazia is only in the Shia community.
