MP Heatwaves: After this, the Meteorological Department has warned of a further increase in heat for the next two days. People have been asked to take special precautions in this scorching heat. Tuesday is the fourth day of Nautapa, due to which the heat is likely to increase in the entire state. The scorching sun will trouble people from the morning itself.

There is a possibility of severe heat in 46 districts including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, and Jabalpur. According to the IMD, there is severe heat in the western part of the state. The northern part is also very hot. The same situation will remain in the coming week. Red alert of severe heat has been issued in Jabalpur, Niwari, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Shahdol, and Singrauli districts.

Use curtains, shutters or sunshades to keep your house cool and open the windows at night. Avoid strenuous work when the outside temperature is high. Carry 2-3 glasses of cold drinking water with you while traveling.

Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee, and carbonated soft drinks, which dehydrate the body. Avoid high-protein foods and stale food. Drink plenty of water. Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles. If you feel faint or unwell, consult a doctor immediately. Consume homemade beverages like lassi, Torani (rice water), lemonade, buttermilk, ORS etc. which help in hydrating the body. Keep animals in the shade and arrange adequate water for them.

Tips for treatment of a person suffering from heat stroke

  • Make the person lie down in the shade and wipe or wash his body frequently with a wet cloth.
  • Pour normal-temperature water on the head to reduce the body temperature.
  • Give ORS, homemade beverages like lassi, Torani (rice water), lemonade, buttermilk, etc. to hydrate the body.
  • If the patient needs to be hospitalized, immediately take him to the nearest health center as heat stroke can be fatal. Acclimatization is achieved by gradual exposure to a hot environment during a heat wave.
  • A person coming from cold weather to hot weather in the summer season should not roam in the outside environment for a week until he acclimatizes.
