The first monsoon rain has been recorded in many parts of the Kottayam district of Kerala. According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon has knocked in Kerala and reached most parts of Northeast India today on May 30.

According to the Meteorological Department (IMD Monsoon Update), the southwest monsoon has arrived this time two days before the forecasted June 1. In a few hours, the monsoon will reach many states of Northeast India.

‘Remal’ cyclone accelerated the flow of Monsoon 2024

Meteorologists said that the ‘Remal’ cyclone, which passed through West Bengal and Bangladesh on Sunday, has pulled the monsoon flow towards the Bay of Bengal, which may be one of the reasons for its premature arrival in the Northeast. The India Meteorological Department said that the southwest monsoon has knocked in Kerala.

Heavy rain in Kerala

According to the Meteorological Department data, Kerala has been receiving heavy rains for the last few days, resulting in excess rain in May. The normal date of arrival of monsoon in Kerala is June 1, while in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam this date is June 5.

The IMD declares the arrival of monsoon in Kerala when 14 centers in Kerala and neighboring areas receive rainfall of 2.5 mm or more for two consecutive days at any time after May 10, outgoing longwave radiation is low and the direction of the winds is southwesterly.

Scientists say that at present El Nino conditions persist and La Nina conditions may develop by August-September.

Will move towards Northeast India today
