Mills Lane Stained with Mike Tyson’s Fight

Mike Tyson rose the most controversial moment in the history of boxing. The incident took place in WBA world heavyweight championship in 1997. Mike and his opponent Evander Holyfield were in a fight and Holyfield dominated in the first few rounds.

Mike got frustrated and allegedly tried to stop his opponent. Mike first tried to bite his ear but was warned with a 2-point penalty. However, the rage was so desperate for Mike that he didn’t stop just there. He attacked once again and this time he managed to bite a good piece out of Holyfield’s ear. The bite was so intense that it took out a one-inch cartilage piece of the opponent’s ear.

Mike later explained that he reacted to continuous head butts from his opponent which referee Mills Lane ignored. Referee Mills Lane reviewed the situation and declared head butts to be unintentional and non-punishable. Mills Lane was not going to participate in the match but was strategically brought into play by Mike’s team.

Mike also said that he might have killed Holyfield if he wasn’t stopped. The desperate actions were also caused due to the adrenaline rush, Mike added.

 

The incident created huge chaos and Mike Tyson went crazy after being infamously disqualified. Mills Jane, the match referee stopped the play several times and was finally forced to disqualify Mike Tyson.

However, the rage between the two fighters didn’t last long and they became close friends later. Mike and Holyfield were a part of a podcast where they discussed about their history and clarified that they are good friends now.

Recently, Match Referee, Mills Jane from the controversial match died at the age of 85. He was a professional fighter and match referee.
