MG Windsor EV: MG Motor India is set to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the Windsor on September 11. A rebranded version of the Cloud EV popular in markets such as Indonesia, the Windsor is tailor-made for Indian consumers. The company will also reveal the price of the car on the same day. With the Windsor, MG aims to strengthen its position in the fast-growing Indian EV market.

As mentioned, the MG Windsor EV is not a completely new model but is a rebadged version of the Wuling Cloud EV. This particular EV is already being sold in international markets, with China being the major one. The Cloud EV has been rebranded and optimised for the Indian market and will be positioned in the Rs 20 lakh EV segment

MG Windsor EV: Dimensions

The MG Windsor EV, which is a rebadged Cloud, is expected to measure 4,295 mm in length, making it slightly smaller than the MG ZS EV. However, it surpasses the ZS EV in width (1,850 mm) and height (1,652 mm). At 2,700 mm, its wheelbase is significantly longer than the ZS EV’s 2,585 mm wheelbase. Although it looks like a large hatchback in the pictures, JSW MG Motor India classifies it as a crossover.

Like any other MG Motor, the crossover comes with features like automatic LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, an electric tailgate, a 360-degree camera, and all four disc brakes. The cabin features a 15.6-inch infotainment system, 360-degree camera, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat and 4-way adjustable powered front passenger seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and a sofa feature in the rear bench that can recline up to 135 degrees

The interior of the MG Windsor EV features a number of comfort and technology features. A large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes center stage, complemented by an 8.8-inch digital instrument display for a modern and driver-centric experience. Passengers can enjoy the comfort of “Italian bubble-style” leatherette seats with electric adjustment for the front row. MG has also showcased a unique “sofa mode” recline function for the rear seats, perfect for relaxing during long journeys. MG Windsor EV: Safety equipment

Safety features are expected to include four airbags, electronic stability control, disc brakes on all four wheels, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as hill hold assist and adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning.

MG Windsor EV: Battery, Motor and Range

The Windsor EV is expected to have the battery used in the Cloud, which, at 50.6 kWh, is the same as the ZS EV and uses lithium ferro-phosphate (LFP) cells. Its range is expected to be up to 460 kilometres, similar to the ZS EV. It will take over 7 hours to charge it up to 100 per cent with a regular AC charger, while a DC fast charger can bring it up to 80 per cent in just over 30 minutes. The Windsor EV has a single electric motor driving the front wheels that produces 134 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, making it less powerful than the ZS EV.

MG Windsor EV: Expected Price

In India, the Windsor EV is likely to be priced between the Comet and the ZS EV, with the latter expected to be priced around Rs 15-20 lakh when it is launched in September. It will compete directly with the Tata Nexon EV, which remains India’s best-selling electric passenger vehicle.
