New Mercedes E-Class LWB India Details
The current E-Class production was discontinued a few months ago, but dealers say they still have stock left. Some dealers also confirmed that they were unofficially accepting bookings for the new E-Class, as some customers wanted to wait for the new generation car. Series production of the new E-Class began recently.
The E-Class is sold in LWB form in only two markets – India and China – and our market is the only one where it is sold in RHD form. The LHD E-Class LWB sold in China gets only petrol powertrains, but the Indian version will have both petrol and diesel engine options.
The new Mercedes E-Class LWBwas showcased in China a few months ago, so the car coming here will look similar with some country-specific changes. There will be two design themes for the grille – a sporty one with the three-pointed star in the middle and a traditional one with a small logo on the bonnet.
New Mercedes E-Class LWB interior, features
On the inside, the new E-Class gets a multi-screen layout, which includes a 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment, a 12.3-inch screen for the passenger (which could come in some higher variants), and a 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster. It will get a host of features and will also get a reclining rear seat – something that the BMW 5 Series LWB available in India doesn’t have.
We have driven the Mercedes E-Class LWB in LHD form, which you can read about in our latest issue which is available on stands now. Apart from the new E-Class LWB, Mercedes-Benz India also plans to launch the electric G-Class, updated AMG GT and the Maybach EQS SUV.
Powertrain Options
The 6th generation E-Class is offered with multiple engine options. However, the model available in India is likely to get a mild hybrid system with 2.0-litre turbo petrol and diesel engines.
