Mercedes-Benz has revealed the third generation Mercedes-Benz CLA in the global market. The German luxury car maker has introduced electric and hybrid models of this entry-level coupe sedan. This is the first car from Mercedes, Its electric version was made first and after that the hybrid version was developed on the same platform.
Apart from this, for the first time for Mercedes, CLA EV and CLA Hybrid will share the same model name. The electric version of the sedan can be launched in the Indian market by the end of 2025. After this, CLA Hybrid will come. The company says that the Mercedes-Benz CLA Electric Coupe Sedan can run 325km in just 10 minutes of charging.
Mercedes-Benz CLA Exterior Design
Mercedes has also made some upgrades to the design of the upcoming coupe sedan to make it aerodynamic. Its alloy wheels are set inside the body arch. Also, small inlets have been provided on the front bumper, which push the air flow equally on all corners.
The new CLA is also bigger in size than its previous model. Its length is 4723mm, width 1855mm and height 1468mm, while its wheelbase is 2790mm. The new CLA is 25mm wider, 25mm higher and 30mm longer than the current model. The car will have a boot space of 405 liters, while the EV version has a front storage of 101 liters.
Mercedes-Benz CLA Interior
The cabin of the new CLA is sportier than before. The front seats have chunky side bolsters for comfort. There will be an option of black and white Alcantara and leather seat upholstery with red stitches. The dashboard features a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.0-inch central touchscreen and a 14-inch passenger display. The infotainment system runs on an updated version of MBUX, which comes with Google Maps navigation and AI-powered searching.
Mercedes-Benz CLA EV Performance
The CLA EV will come in two variants – CLA 250+ and CLA 350 4-Matic. The entry-level model CLA 250+ will get a 272hp rear-mounted permanent magnet motor for performance, which generates a maximum torque of 335Nm. The motor gets a Porsche Taycan-style two-speed gearbox instead of the usual single-speed reduction gearing. The company claims that with this powertrain, the CLA 250+ can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 6.7 seconds.
On the other hand, the CLA 350 4-Matic will get an electric motor with a single-speed gearbox on the front axle along with the rear motor. Both these motors together generate a combined power of 354hp and a torque of 515Nm. This allows the car to reach a speed of 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds. The top speed of both variants is 210kmph.
Mercedes-Benz CLA EV Range
The CLA EV will come with EQ technology. It will get an 85kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery to power the motor. On a full charge, the CLA 250+ will get a range of 792km and the CLA 350 4Matic will get a range of 770km. Interestingly, the rear-wheel-drive CLA 250+ offers more range than Mercedes‘ own flagship EQS 580, which with its 118kWh battery pack offers a range of 770km (WLTP certified) on a full charge.
To charge the battery, the car will come with an 11kW AC charger, which will fully charge the car in 9 hours. At the same time, the car supports DC fast charger up to 320kW for fast charging. Thanks to its 800V electrical architecture, the car can be fully charged in 22 minutes at the charging station.
At the same time, the company claims that the car can run up to 275-325km in just 10 minutes of charging with a fast charger. The EV will also be offered with a 58kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) pack later.
Mercedes-Benz CLA EV Features
Talking about features, it will have a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, 16-speaker Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos and heated front seats. For passenger safety, it can have features like 9 airbags, 360-degree camera, traction control, park assist along with many ADAS features like blind spot monitoring and autonomous emergency braking.
