Mary Kom will skip Asian Boxing Championships

Six-time World Champion, Mary Kom will skip the Asian boxing championship which is going to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from April 16 to 27.

She has decided to take this step as she wanted to focus on the World Championships to be held later in the year.

Including World Champion silver medalist Sonia Chahal alongside former World Championships gold medalist Sarita Devi and former World Junior Champion Nikhat Zareen, a 20-member Indian women boxing team will be included in the Asian boxing championship.

From the 46 boxers, these boxers were selected on the basis of a three-day trial conducted at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.

After 7 successful editions, the women’s competition will be held at the same time as the men at the Asian Championship for the first time. In the previous edition, Indian women won seven medals, including one gold, one silver, and five bronze.
