Facebook, world’s most popular, and controversial, social networking service, has turned 15. While celebrating its anniversary, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared an established post on the service highlighting the history of the service and its possible future.
One of the big social media platforms, Facebook which was launched as an internal networking portal by the Harvard dropout from his college dorm, today hosts approximately 2.7 billion people which are connected on the service.
In his long post, Zuckerberg outlines the initial years of Facebook were filled with doubts regarding its survival.
Nevertheless, Facebook never looked back and just continued to reach heights. Not only it swallowed other services like Orkut, but became the only social service people trusted to use.
Though if you talk of its recent history, Facebook has been surfaced with a lot of controversies over the misuse and mishandling of user data through its platform.
For this, there is a plan to spend more on Facebook’s safety and security, which is its whole revenue during the IPO. It is also planning to invest in artificial intelligence to manage the content at scale.
“But if the last 15 years were about people building these new networks and starting to see their impact, then the next 15 years will be about people using their power to remake society in ways that have the potential to be profoundly positive for decades to come, ” Zuckerberg said.
