Lohri In Political Colors: Farmers Burnt The Laws, Said Will Not Celebrate This Year

Winter solistice is about to end and Lohri marks this end with bonfire, authentic Punjabi food, and Bhangra. Just like the welcoming and energetic nature of Punjabis, the festival welcomes the sunny days and fill us with excitement.

Farmers give special offerings to the Agni Dev and pray for their families.  The offering is a mix of gur ( jaggery ),til (sesame seeds), gajak, and moongphali ( peanuts ).  They dance and enjoy delicious recipes made.

However, this time they are celebrating in different way as most of the farmers are far from their families. Covid is definitely the reason but the resentment of farmers with government on the new farmer bill is the main cause.

Same can be seen on this auspicious day. Here is how farmers protesting on the borders are celebrating Lohri.

The video came from the Singhu border and most of the protestors are from Punjab and Haryana. They have clearly shown their resentment and intention by offering copies of farm laws to the Agni Dev.

Not just this, the protestors said we won’t celebrate the festival like usual stating the suicide of farmers as the reason. This is not the right time to celebrate said one of the protestors.

And not just Lohri, they are planning to celebrate the Baisakhi same way. It is another harvest festival celebrated one day after Lohri.
