Largest Ever Health Sector Support: World Bank Grants $1 Billion Emergency Fund For India

In the fight against Covid-19, many Bollywood celebrities, political leaders, athletes, and ordinary people are coming forward to support the efforts of our PM Narendra Modi. Everyone is contributing as much they can to help the nation in this challenging period.

So in such a crisis, The World bank Approved a 1 Billion dollar emergency fund for India to handle the coronavirus pandemic, which has took over 53 lives and infected more than 2,000 people others in the nation. So far, this is the most extensive health sector support from the bank to India.

The fund will be managed by the National Center For Disease Control, National Health Mission, and Indian Council of Medical Research under the Ministery of Health And Family Welfare.

This support will cover all Union territories and states across India and fulfill the requirements of infect people by Covid-19, medical, at-risk populations, and animal health organizations.

“This operation is expected to enhance surveillance capacities, strengthen diagnostic systems, and expand the capacity of laboratories. But, covid-19 is not only a health challenge. It has deep social and economic implications. In parallel, we are working with equal urgency with the government on social protection programs and economic measures that protect the livelihoods of people.” Said Junaid Ahmad World Bank Country Director for India.

This huge amount will be used for the acquirement of testing kits, creating new isolation wards, turning ordinary hospital beds into ICU beds, buy protective equipment, medicines, and ventilators in district hospitals.
