Reliance’s JioStar has launched the JioHotstar streaming platform which is a merger of JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. It is touted to be India’s largest streaming service with a combined user base of over 50 crore and over 3 lakh hours of content. JioStar, a joint venture owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Ltd and The Walt Disney Company, has set targets for its video streaming business as it is set to merge two OTT apps – JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar – into a new single OTT platform, JioHotstar, today.
What is the subscription fee?
- The subscription plans for the new platform are divided into three types.
- The cheapest plan starts at Rs 149 for three months or Rs 499 for a year. This mobile (ad-supported plan) will let the user access the content on only one mobile device.
- The next Super (ad-supported plan) is priced at Rs 299 for three months or Rs 899 for a year and allows the customer to access content on any two devices at a time. It will also let users access all content on any supported platform (mobile, web, and supported living room devices).
- The most expensive plan, Premium (ad-free), starts at Rs 299 monthly (which can only be purchased through a web browser). It can also be purchased for multiple months at once at Rs 499 for three months and Rs 1,499 for a year.

Over 3 lakh hours of content
Users have access to over 3 lakh hours of content on the JioHotstar OTT platform. This includes Bollywood, Hollywood, South Indian films, anime, documentaries, and web series.
Live Sports Streaming
In the JioHotstar app, users will also get to watch live streaming of cricket, football, kabaddi, and other major sports. This will give users who are fond of watching sports a great experience of watching live matches.
Partnership with International Studios
Content from international streaming services like Disney, Warner Bros., HBO, NBCUniversal, and Paramount will be available on Jio’s latest OTT platform.
Content in Indian languages
Along with international content, content in more than 10 Indian languages will also be available on JioHotstar.
