2019 Tony Awards: As per the latest Hollywood reports, actor-comedian James Corden is ready to host this year’s Tony Awards.
Corden, who himself won a Tony in 2012 for his performance in ‘One Man’, Two Guvnors, previously officiated the Broadway’s annual awards ceremony in 2016.
Speaking on his upcoming gig, Corden in a statement quoted, “I’m thrilled to be returning to host the Tony Awards, the Broadway community is very dear to my heart and I’m beyond proud to be part of this incredibly special night.”
President of the Broadway League, Charlotte St. Martin, and Heather Hitchens, President of the American Theatre Wing, jointly said in a statement, “James is not only a beloved talent, but he is also a veteran of the stage and has a true passion for Broadway. We cannot wait to see what he has in store for us this year at the Tony Awards.”
Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, Tony executive producers titled Corden “hilarious” and “insanely talented.”
When in 2016, Corden hosted the Tony Awards, he opened the show with a heart-melting tribute to those who lost their lives in the mass shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, in which 50 people died the same day of the show’s broadcast.
From Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban, Corden is taking over the host duties. Sara and Josh served as co-hosts for the last year’s ceremony.
The Tony Award acknowledges excellence in live Broadway theatre. The nominations for this year’s Tony Awards will be announced on April 30.
This award show will be broadcast live on CBS from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, this year on June 9.
In addition to this, Corden is all geared up for the new film adaptation of the musical ‘Cats’ along with Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Rebel Wilson, and Jennifer Hudson.
