Opener KL Rahul was on a roller coaster in yesterday’s exciting match as he smashed the fastest ever half-century in Indian Premier League. As Kings XI Punjab started their tournament with a roaring note- defeating Delhi Daredevils by six wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin mobilized his holdings efficiently to restrict Daredevils to a so-so score of 166 for 7 on an even-tempered surface.
The captain himself leading from the front bowled a disciplined over of 1 for 23 in 4 overs with his few leg breaks. The surprise element in yesterday’s match was Afghanistan’s off-spinner Mujeeb-r-Rahman, who finished his excellent spell with 2 for 28 in his respected 4 overs.
But with the great opening formulized by KL Rahul, who smashed six boundaries and four sixes in his 51 off 16, which rapidly took the score to 73 for 2 in just six overs within the powerplays. And it seemed like he took away the game from the opponent. Also Punjab’s local boy Yuvraj Singh added 12 off 22 balls. Continuing in this effort Karun Nair gave his contribution of 50 from 33 balls and reached the target in just 18.5 overs.
The star-of-the-match was Rahul, who started with hitting top-edged six to Trent Boult with a couple of boundaries adding to it. Also didn’t leave Mohammed Shami over a fine-leg six in the next over. Even Amit Mishra was not spared by his thunderstorm and hit three fours and two sixes with a total of 24 runs and had a record half-century in all 11 editions of IPL.
Rahul added that “for years, I have been portrayed as a Test cricketer. It’s good for me to be there, creating and breaking records with history in itself. Hope to continue this form ahead” – Rahul said after he was adjudged “Man of the match.”
