IPL 2024: Dhumal says that work is going on preparations for IPL and Women’s Premier League (WPL). WPL is planned to start from mid-February to March 10 and IPL to start from March 21, 22 and end by May 25, 26.
Before the World Cup to be held in June, all eyes are on IPL, but the schedule of the league has not been released yet. IPL Governing Council Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal has revealed that this time the league schedule will not be released all at once but in phases.
This is happening due to the conflict between the league and the general elections. The league has to be conducted within two months. It is possible to organize it from 21st or 22nd March to 25th or 26th May.
IPL has to be finished a week before the World Cup

There will also be an opening and closing ceremony
Dhumal said that our team is continuously talking to the Central Government and the Election Commission. We are working accordingly. We will soon announce the first phase between March and April.
After that the election dates are expected to be announced. Then we will decide how to conduct the league in the remaining states. Opening and closing ceremonies of IPL will also be conducted. Work is going on on this also.
Not taking the league abroad
We are not trying to take the league abroad. The government also wants the same, the league should be in the country. We will try to get it done here in coordination with the government. Our team is talking to the Home Ministry and state governments for approval to organize the league. We will decide the further schedule according to their guidelines.
Number of double headers will increase
Dhumal says that the number of double headers (two matches in a day) of the league is expected to increase. It remains to be seen when elections are to be held in which state. If league matches have to be staggered due to elections in any state, the number of double headers may increase. Our endeavor will be to have as many double headers as there were earlier.
WPL becomes the second largest women’s league in the world
WPL was last held in Mumbai, but this time keeping in mind the franchises and fans, efforts are being made to organize it in two cities, Bangalore and Delhi. We started the Women’s Premier League last year, but the response to the league from fans and franchises has made it the second largest women’s league in the world.
This is a matter of great pride. In the last WPL final, it was not clear whether it was a men’s or women’s final. Cricketers from other cricket boards of the world also want to join it. This is a big thing. After this league, the demand for women’s cricket has suddenly increased in the academies of our states. A large number of daughters are coming there to take up cricket. Parents are coming to the academy in large numbers with their daughters.
