Historic win for India in Tokyo Olympics 2021. The women’s hockey team reaches the semi-finals on Monday following the men’s hockey team. This is for the first time when both teams will be competing in the semi-finals. The 22nd-minute goal by defender Gurjit Kaur pushed the team to make history and defeated Australia.

Australia’s Dream To Win 4the Time Shattered
The three-time champions Australian women hockey team failed to enter semi-finals, got defeated by 1-0 by India. Former World No.1 has won back to back in Sydney and Atlanta Olympic Games. It is the most successful team in the world and stands second in the world ranking after Netherland.

Upon the first-ever historic win in Olympics by the team India, High Commissioner of Australia Barry O’Farrell congratulated and wished for upcoming matches.

Savita Punia and Gurjit Kaur became the limelight of the game. Barry appreciated Savita saying She was the toughest in the game and beating her was impossible. He further called her ‘The Great Wall of India.’

India won for the third time in Olympics 2020 and defeated South Africa and Ireland in the previous matches. Now the team will play against Argentina in the semi-finals on Wednesday. Both the team will vie to reach the finals to win their first-ever gold.
