‘Period. End of Sentence,’ an India-based film created history after winning the best documentary short subject at the 2019 Oscars.
The film is written by Rayka Zehtabchi, who delighted by the win, showed her enjoyment saying, “I can’t believe a film about menstruation just won an Oscar.”
The documentary has been produced by Guneet Monga, who has already produced critically acclaimed films like ‘Lunchbox’ and ‘Masaan’.
Monga took to her Twitter handle to express joy over the big win. She wrote, “WE WON!!! To every girl on this earth… know that you are a goddess… if heavens are listening… look MA we put @sikhya on the map.”
The film was clashing with other films including ‘Black Sheep’, ‘Lifeboat’ ‘End Game’, and ‘A Night at the Garden’.
The documentary that deals with the stigma around menstruation in rural India is presently available on Netflix.
‘Period. End of Sentence.’ is the second Oscar-winning film short set in India, along with Smile Pinki (2008).
The 2019 Oscars is having a place at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Centre in Hollywood.
