Ujjain’s Mahakal Corridor is going to be a beautiful gift to the people of India and foreign tourists. The 20.23 hectares wide and 900-meter-long corridor has huge statues of Lord Shiva telling the stories of Mahakal.
On October 11, the honorable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will inaugurate this Rs 750 Crore dream project. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has released a short video of the newly constructed corridor ahead of its inauguration.

Statues Telling Lord Shiva Saga
This is first-of-its-kind in the country. You will see Lord Shiva Saga, dancing Lord Ganesha, a battle scene from Mahabharat featuring Lord Krishna and Arjun in the chariot, and idols of other deities.
2. Statues With QR Code
Each statue will have a QR code, scanning which tourists can learn more about the story behind those statues.
For the ease of tourists, there will also be a heritage mall, a theme park, a 210-meter suspension bridge, a railway underpass, and e-transport facilities.

3. 108 Pillars with Meticulous Artwork
The corridor will not only be a religious site but also an architectural marvel and a must-see tourist site. It looks heavenly beautiful during the night due to the light works on 108 pillars that paint the entire city yellow.
It starts from the Rudra Sagar near the Mahakal Temple and is adorned with lights to enhance its beauty furthermore.
4. A 200-Ft Statue of Shiva
A 200-foot-high statue of Lord Shiva is the main attraction here. You will also see different forms of Shiva that are not present anywhere else.

Other Facilities At Mahakal Corridor
The first phase of this project is almost completed that includes a theme park to attract tourists.
In the final phase i.e. second phase, various developments around the corridor will be done. It includes the construction of a bridge between the Rudra Sagar and Shipra rivers.
The government is also developing multiple-level parking for tourists to fit more than 300 cars.
Also, tourists don’t have to book hotels for staying purposes. For them, a Dharamshala is being made by transforming the Maharajwada school Bhawan.
A railway underpass and suspension bridge of 210 meters are also part of the second phase. With all these facilities, the Mahakal Corridor of Ujjain will help transform the city into a Smart City.
Beginning of Mahakal Corridor Ujjain
This dream project began in 2019 during the Kamalnath Government. Initial funding of Rs 300 Crore was also approved by the central government for it.
Later in 2020, Shivraj Singh came into power and he increased the project cost to Rs 750 Crore. With the surge in cost, the infrastructure was also modified to include various elements.
