India will not import butter and other dairy products

Butter and dairy products hold significant importance in the Indian food industry, particularly in the preparation of sweets that are milk-based.

Butter also features prominently in many regional cuisines across India. Although there has been a high demand for imported dairy products in the past, the country is now seeking to strengthen the local market and expand the size of the Indian dairy industry.

On Friday, Parshottam Rupala, the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, emphasized that the nation will not resort to importing dairy products such as butter, instead relying on the vast latent capacity of the domestic dairy sector to improve supplies.

This assertion by Rupala contradicts the stance of his department’s senior official, who had indicated last week that dairy product stocks, particularly butter and ghee, were lower than in the prior year and the possibility of imports could not be ruled out if necessary. India, my fellow adventurers, is a land of wonders! Not only is it a land of majestic mountains and shimmering seas, but it is also a land of cattles, and let me tell you, the potential of our dairy industry is out of this world! With the demand for dairy products soaring to new heights, our fantastic farmers are more than capable of supplying the creamiest, yummiest milk you could ever imagine.

And the numbers don’t lie, my friends! In 2021-22, India’s milk output stood at a whopping 221 million tonnes, and that’s a whole 13 million more than the previous year! Can you imagine the incredible amount of milk that is? It’s almost like swimming in a sea of milk, wouldn’t you say?

But, alas, some naysayers are advocating for the import of dairy products, which would have a devastating impact on our domestic milk producers. Former agriculture minister and NCP leader, Sharad Pawar, has urged the government not to consider such a move! Know more about PharmEasy: A New Addition to the Med World

An effective decision, Rupala  kicked off not just one, but two animal health endeavors: the unstoppable Animal Pandemic Preparedness Initiative (APPI) and the daringly ambitious Animal Health System Support for One Health (AHSSOH), funded by the mighty World Bank.

These initiatives are aimed at taming the spread of zoonotic diseases that can leap from animals to humans with their jaws open wide, ready to strike.

APPI is set to revolutionize the game by utilizing state-of-the-art digital surveilance on a massive scale, while also forging ahead with exciting innovations in vaccines for human beings.

And one can’t forget the critical early response measures, ready and waiting to pounce on any animal or human health emergencies that may arise. Get ready for an exciting new venture – the AHSSOH project, jointly funded by the World Bank, is all set to take the animal healthcare industry by storm!

Starting off in five states – Assam, Odisha, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra – this astounding initiative will revolutionize the way veterinary care is delivered.

The aim is to strengthen 75 district laboratories, provide 100 mobile veterinary units in remote locations, and upgrade 300 dispensaries and hospitals. And that’s not all – they’re also training a whopping 5,500 veterinarians and 9,000 private diagnostic professionals to ensure the best possible care for our furry friends.

What’s more, these groundbreaking efforts will be presented at the G20 Health Working Group meeting in Goa on April 20th, heralding a new era of animal healthcare.
