ICC Cricket Rules 2022: Check Out The New Rules In International Cricket

On 9th March 2022, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) London has announced new rules for International Cricket. The sub-committee of MCC had made several amendments on run-out, caught out, player replacement etc. We have made a list of all new ICC Cricket Rules 2022. Check out the list below.

Rule 18: New Batsman Holds Strike After Caught Out

According to the new rule, batsmen who come to bat after caught out will hold the strike. No matter the other player had crossed a line before the catch.

Rule 20.4.2.12: Aid on Dead Ball Rule

MCC has made several changes to modify the dead ball law. From now on, if any intruder (person, animal or other objects) break the continuity of the game, then the umpire is liable to call it a Dead Ball. The decision is taken because sometimes it can give an advantage to any of the sides.

Rule 21.4: Bowler’s Throw Towards Striker’s End Before Delivery

In an attempt to run out striker, sometimes bowler throws the ball towards his end before delivery. This act has been counted as No ball until now. But from now on, it is going to be considered as Dead Ball.

Rule 22.1: On Wide Ball

In modern days cricket, a lot of batsman plays innovative shots that create doubt in the bowler’s mind. The new law suggests that the “Wide” will apply from the point where the batsman is standing since the bowler start his run-up.

Rule 25.8: Striker’s Right To Play The Ball

As per the new rule, the batsman is allowed to hit the ball away from the pitch. As a reward, any ball that forces a batsman to leave the pitch is now considered as “No Ball”. But the batsman cannot leave the pitch during this.

Rule 27.4 And 28.6: Unfair Act By The Feilding Side

From now on, if any unfair act is recognised from the fielding side while bowling, the batting side will be awarded by 5 extra runs. Earlier it was referred to as “Dead Ball” which is disadvantageous to the batting side.

Rule 38.3: On Run Out

Run-out the non-striker before delivery now become unfair. It is the most controversial law that has to be clear.

Rule 41.3: No Saliva On Ball

The coronavirus pandemic forced MCC to ban the use of saliva on the ball. It helps bowlers to get swing in the delivery, especially the red ball. But MCC claims that it can spread the virus among players.
