The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, jointly hosted by Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will kick off on February 19 with a thrilling opener between Pakistan and New Zealand. As teams gear up for the much-awaited tournament, the ICC and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have announced the official schedule of the practice matches scheduled from February 14 to 17.
What is the ICC Champions Trophy 2025?
After a gap of eight years, the ICC Champions Trophy is back for its ninth edition. The Champions Trophy, originally known as the ICC Knockout Trophy, is a quadrennial tournament played in the 50 overs/One Day International format.
It began in 1998 and ran until 2017, when it was discontinued in line with the ICC’s goal of having a tournament for each of the three formats of international cricket. The ICC announced in November 2021 that Pakistan will host the tournament. The 2029 edition will be held in India.
Which teams are playing in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Group A: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, New Zealand
Group B: Afghanistan, Australia, England, South Africa
What is the format of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025?
The tournament will be played in a simple round-robin format in the group stage, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals.
Each team will get two points for a win, one point for a “no result” or a tie, and no points for a loss. In case of a tie, the semi-finalists will be determined based on net run rate.
What are the venues for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025?
Pakistan will host nine of the 15 games at home, while all of India’s matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as the Indian government has refused to send its team to Pakistan.
If India qualifies for the knockouts, they will play in the first semi-final, which will take place in Dubai. And if India reaches the final, the most important match will be shifted from Lahore to Dubai.
