How India Vs Australia Become The Biggest Cricket Rivalry Of Modern Era?

How India vs Australia Become biggest rival

The establishment of a trophy for what was up until that point a largely one-sided rivalry has altered the dynamics of India-Australia Test cricket; perhaps this is merely a coincidence.

The cricket boards of Australia and India agreed that starting in 1996, the two nations would compete for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Test cricket as a way to honor the contributions made to the game and to their respective trophies.

While Sunil Gavaskar is India’s first true batting legend—a magnificent combination of technique, temperament, and pride that made him the first batter to reach 10,000 Test runs—Allan Border led Australia through one of the most challenging transitional periods in the mid-1980s, ultimately leading them to the 1987 World Cup title and helping them turn the corner.

Increasing Dominance Of India

Up until that time, Australia had dominated many of the encounters between the two teams, mostly domestically, but in recent decades, the playing field has become more level. India can claim to be in control of the most recent faceoffs, having held the trophy since a grueling 2-1 victory at home in 2017. They have since won the last three series, including two in Australia, by the same score.

In what was arguably the greatest moment in Test cricket for them, whether at home or away, India returned to their heroics two years after waiting 71 years for their first series victory down under in 2018–19, albeit with a severely diminished squad.

The Historic Win Of Gabba Test 2021

It was to be the first time Australia had lost at the Gabba in thirty-three years. With two rookies, Washington Sundar and T Natarajan, and less than half of the starting lineup, Team continued to rally from difficult situations thanks to the Greenhorns who performed above their level. The most brilliant star was Rishabh Pant, who was already a cult figure in Australia at the time. Their heroes included Natarajan, Washington, Shardul Thakur, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Shubman Gill.

One of the less-hailed Indian successes came at the WACA ground in Perth in January 2008
