How Hazardous it is to use headphones?

A headphone can cause damage to your ear the same way any loud noise does. 

It can also lead to “noise-induced hearing loss” The sensory receptors which is a tiny hair cell present in the inner ear which is used to hear, and bend down when you use headphones or when it receives any loud music.

If you give a sound time after listening to any music, then it might recover, but if you fail to do so then it can result in permanent damage.

Can loud music lead to hearing loss?

As per the diagnosis of doctors, it is said that “In some of the cases, it is not necessary for a headphone to be so loud, it can also cause damage if the volume is moderate.

The reason behind this is, the damage to the ears does not only depends on the loudness of the sound, but the time dedicated to the exposure also matters.

For instance, if you go to any concert for a longer duration of time, it can result in damage that is equal to a gunshot near the ear or an explosion.

If you feel ringing, roaring, hissing, and buzzing in the ear, then it might be a symptom of hearing loss. Some more symptom includes problem in understanding speech in noisy places or hearing the muffled sound.

A hearing experiment and a medical text is the way by which you can diagnose hearing impairment. 

Any hearing loss which is noise-induced caused by earbuds can be prevented by you totally. Doctors mostly recommend a 60%/60 minutes rule.

The rule says that you can listen to a piece of music to 60% of the maximum volume and only 60 minutes.

You can surely minimize the damage by taking some precautions. You can follow the following precautionary steps to minimize the problem:

  1. Use a headphone which is of good quality and has good noise cancellation. Headphones with good quality can minimize the damage caused to your ears. 
  2. If you want to go for a device then you must go for headphones rather than earbuds as headphones distribute the sound evenly whereas earbuds fail to do so.
  3. You should always take breaks while listening as taking a break can actually help you out. Also, the volume limits should not exceed the mentioned limit.
