Hong Kong Authorities Confirm First Case Of Dog Infected By Covid-19

Hong Kong authorities have confirmed the first case of human to the animal transmission of Covid-19. The authorities called it a“Low-level infection”. It was a pomeranian pet dog that acquired the disease and tested “weakly positive” for the Coronavirus test since last Friday.

As of now, the dog has been quarantined in the Department Of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for further testing which is located in South China.

As per the statement given by the University Of Hong Kong, World Organisation For Animal Health and City University all gave the statement-

“Unanimously agreed that these results suggest that the dog has a low level of infection and it is likely to be a case of human-to-animal infection.”

However, a spokesperson said that the source has not been identified for animals acquiring Covid-19.

SPCA strictly advised animal lovers to maintain personal hygiene and limit contact with pets or animals if suspected of carrying the virus.

The pet pomeranian dog belonged to a 60-year old woman who was also confirmed to be infected and was admitted to the hospital on 25 February.

In Hong Kong, the number of infected cases has reached up to 100.
