History Of Hariyali Teej
Legend has it that Parvati married Shiva on her 108th birth, during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Shravan, after going through 107 incarnations. In previous lives, she gave up all ties to the outside world and lived off of dry leaves to win Shiva’s love, but Shiva was unaware because he had made a vow to be a virgin. Parvati went to the Himalayas and made a Shiva Lingam out of sand to symbolize her unwavering love and get his attention.
Moved by her commitment, Shiva showed up, in truth her desire, and acknowledged her as his significant other due to her earnest fasting and customs. The belief that sincere women who observe the fast receive blessings from Shiva and Parvati is the basis for this festival.
