October 11 is marked as International Girl Child Day every year and although we’re not complaining but, is there a need?
Anyway, this day is celebrated to recognize the need to make girls amplify their voices and stand up for their rights. Really? Do we need to dedicate an entire day for this when all we do is sing the song of ‘Women Empowerment’ round the year?

The day celebrates the achievements and milestones of girls since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
Some of the core areas that the day is focused upon are access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women, forced child marriage and many more.
UNICEF also Tweeted on the occasion of International Girl Child Day:
Girls are leading and fostering a world that works for #GenerationEquality.
Let's celebrate their achievements on #DayoftheGirl, and every day! pic.twitter.com/xrzJD7PBCy

International Girl Child Day was first celebrated in 2012 with the theme being “Ending Child Marriage”
This year’s theme is “Girl Force: Unscripted And Unstoppable” The purpose of dedicating an entire day for girls is basically to reinforce them into safer adulthood!

So my point is, instead of celebrating a day dedicated to it, how about we make a safer environment, and not only just for girls but for everyone!
Because safety, rights and respect, are not Gender-Specific!
Food for thought?
