Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a key player in India’s struggle for independence from British rule. He was born on October 2, 1869, in Porbandar, Gujarat. He began his career in South Africa before studying law at University College London, where he campaigned against racial injustice. That’s when his non-violent resistance concept known as Satyagraha began to take shape.
