Michael Chiang has been appointed by Foxconn in Taiwan to take over the leadership of the iPhone assembly division from Wang Charng-yang, according to Bloomberg News. Foxconn and Apple have declined to comment on the matter.

The Zhengzhou facility in China, which is the primary production center for Apple’s iPhones, has had a difficult year with a COVID-19 outbreak and worker unrest over payment issues. However, the plant had almost returned to full production in December with shipments reaching 90 percent of the initial plans, as reported by Reuters in January.

As part of Young Liu’s, the Chairman of Foxconn, endeavor to promote younger executives and keep Foxconn’s place as a leader in the supply chain in the midst of rising Chinese rivals, Chiang has been appointed, according to a Bloomberg report.
Additionally, the Financial Times reported earlier this month that Apple is likely to partner with Chinese manufacturer Luxshare Precision Industry Company Limited to make high-end iPhone models after Foxconn’s Zhengzhou factory faced production difficulties last year.
