After the Modi sarkar has come into power this practice has become more frequent. The ideology behind that was to nationalize public places and physically erase the marks of the Mughals and Britishers.

1.Mughalsarai Junction

Mugalsarai junction is among the most famous railway stations in India. It is now officially known as Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya junction. Therefore, the new station code, DDU, replaces MGS.

It is renamed in 2018 and named after a famous Indian politician and former BJP leader. It is the 4th busiest railway station in India.

Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay railway station is located 16km from Varanasi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

2. Allahabad

The city was officially renamed Prayagraj on October 16, 2018. Allahabad is among the most well-known places to have had their names changed in recent years.

Yogi Adityanath, the CM of Uttar Pradesh, made this proposal. This is because Akbar changed the city’s name to Allahabad 500 years ago when it was known as Pryagraj.

As the city is situated at the confluence of the largest holy rivers of India Ganges and the Yamuna known as Prayag, so the city is named Prayagraj.

3. Faizabad

After Allahabad was named Prayagraj, the Yogi Adityanath government renamed another city of Uttar Pradesh. Faizabad became Ayodhya in 2018.

According to legend, this is due to the fact that Ayodhya served as the capital of the “Akshvaku dynasty,” Dasaratha’s kingdom and Lord Ram’s birthplace.

4. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport

This international airport of Mumbai is now known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj international airport. The word ‘Maharaj’ is being added to its previous name.

This Mumbai airport has been renamed for the second time.

It is named after the Chhatrapati of the Maratha empire, Shivaji Maharaj. It is the second busiest airport in the country

5. Naya Raipur

Naya Raipur is a planned and fully greenfield city in the Chhattisgarh state of India. It is rebaptized as Atal Nagar in April 2021.

This city is renamed in the loving memory of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

6. Sabarmati Ghat

Sabarmati ghat is now known as Atal ghat. Situated at the river bank of Sabarmati river, Gujrat.

Chief Minister Vijay Rupani decided to rename it after attending the ashes immersion ceremony of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Many locations have been given new names recently, mainly in Jharkhand, in honor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

7. Agra Airport

The famous Mughal Sarai junction was renamed after the RSS ideologue pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay.

Ten days after that UP government proposed to rename Agra airport as pt. Deen Dhayal Upadhyay airport in 2018.

Moreover, this airport is a military base and serves as a public airport in Uttar Pradesh.

Now, Kandla port is known as Deen Dayal port trust. It is a seaport in the Kutch district of Gujrat.

Also, it is one of the major ports on the west coast serving western India.

9. Wheeler Island

It was rebaptized as APJ Abdul Kalam island on 4 Sept 2015.

This island was renamed to honor the late Indian president, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.

10. Habibganj railway station

Habibganj railway station of Bhopal is now known as Rani Kamlapati railway station.

It was renamed after the Gond queen of Bhopal, Rani Kamlapati.

This railway station is India’s first private railway station. It is the country’s first ISO (international organization for standardization) certified railway station on the PPP model.
