According to the news agency PTI, a bomb threat prompted Air India to divert a Monday Air India flight from Mumbai to New York to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The Air India flight, which took off around 2 a.m., was immediately diverted to New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where it is currently grounded.

Sources say that an alert about a possible bomb threat on a Air India flight headed for New York was sent from X, the former Twitter. Security personnel in Delhi received the message, and a request to divert the aircraft to Delhi was made.

“Flight AI119 operating Mumbai to JFK on October 14 received a specific security alert and was diverted to Delhi on instructions of the government’s security regulatory committee,” the Air India spokesperson said in a statement.

“All passengers have disembarked and are currently positioned in the Delhi airport terminal. Our associates on the ground are trying to limit the bother caused to our visitors by this startling disturbance. The safety and security of its crew members and passengers is Air India’s top priority.
